A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found another good reason not to skip meals in the morning. According to scientists, regular breakfast reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
 
Men who miss breakfast are found to be 21% more likely to develop the disease. 
 

What does a balanced breakfast include, according to nutrition experts:

 
  • a whole grain cereal product containing complex carbohydrates and fiber,
  • dairy product to provide calcium, 
  • fruits with which we get useful fibers, vitamins and minerals,
  • hydrating drink. 
 
Whole grains are a source not only of fiber, but also of B vitamins and antioxidants. Consumption of fiber helps reduce the levels of "bad" cholesterol. The beneficial ingredients make it difficult to fully absorb some fats and reduce the risk of developing atherosclerosis. 
 
 
In addition, a 2008 study found that people who ate healthy carbs at breakfast rather than dinner were less likely to have high glucose levels.
 

Here are 3 ideas of what to put on the table in the morning:

 
  • Cereal or oatmeal product with low-fat milk and a small handful of nuts. The menu is high in fiber, easy to prepare and requires few ingredients.
  • One or two eggs, toasted slices of wholemeal bread and fruit. 
  • Wholemeal muffin, low-fat cream cheese.
