We know that some medicines cannot be taken at the same time as others. However, there are medications that should not be taken with certain foods. We know that antibiotics are not taken at the same time as yogurt.
Which medications do not work with which foods?
It is not appropriate to consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment. Grapefruit is not compatible with any drug. It contains substances that act as inhibitors of liver function and prevent the drugs from breaking down into small particles. This in turn slows down the breakdown of the drug and its further distribution in the body. An effect of drug overdose in the body is obtained. The effect of taking a single dose of high blood pressure medication with grapefruit juice - makes the dose double.
Grapefruit juice is not used to take medicines for heart problems, antidepressants, antibiotics, medicines for cancer. The list is over 50 drugs. Every day a new drug is added to this list, in which case a contraindication has been registered. Therefore, it is recommended not to consume grapefruit or its juice when taking medicines.
Caution should be exercised when consuming medications containing caffeine, as it neutralizes it. It is not appropriate to drink antibiotics, citramon, ascochene, caffeine with milk. The white liquid is not useful for prescribed preparations containing iron. In general, milk is an unsuitable food for anemia.
Medicines should not be taken with carbonated drinks, as the carbon dioxide contained in them changes the acidity of the drug and its properties. Even carbonated mineral water is unsuitable, as well as some types of mineral water. It is preferable to drink plain tap water or spring water.
Reduce the activity of antibiotics, as well as the drug no-spa, and increase the toxic effect of antifungal agents.
Natural juices can be taken with multivitamin complexes and preparations containing iron, as they improve the absorption of these pharmaceutical products.
The food we eat also affects the effect of medicines. What matters is what breakfast, lunch, dinner and in what quantities. Vitamin A, for example, is absorbed much faster with foods that contain fat. Such foods are recommended for drugs that are fat-soluble. These are metronidazole, anticoagulants, tranquilizers.
However, fatty foods are not suitable for taking medications for kidney infections.
Protein-rich foods interact with a drug used to treat tuberculosis, isoniazid. When taking the same drug is not recommended consumption of salty and sour foods, marinated, pickled type.
Fatty foods and those that contain a lot of sugar reduce the properties of anthelmintics.
Strawberry juice should not be drunk when taking tablets against high blood pressure, as this will increase the effect of the drug and lower blood pressure too much. Berries contain substances that have the ability to dilate blood vessels.
Turnips, cabbage, lettuce reduce the action of thyroid hormones. Green vegetables are not suitable when taking blood clotting agents - spinach, sorrel, broccoli and others, which are rich in vitamin K, which helps blood clotting.
Eating vegetables, fruits, strawberries and berries can only be helpful in treating atherosclerosis.
Beets, carrots, cabbage, turnips, cucumbers and tomatoes help remove excess cholesterol from the body.
Consumption of coffee, alcohol, mint tea is not recommended for therapy with homeopathic remedies. Spicy dishes and the use of many spices should be avoided. Homeopathy excludes foods that contain dyes and flavors, as well as fast food.
The instructions to the drug explicitly states before, during or after meals should be taken. There are also drugs for which this is irrelevant. If the package leaflet does not state when to take the medicine, it is better to take it half an hour before a meal on an empty stomach. This is recommended because the substances in food and gastric juices interact with the drug and may change its properties. At least half an hour before a meal, all herbal preparations, decoctions, infusions and others are taken.
After meals, take drugs that irritate the gastric mucosa - metronidazole, indomethacin, hormonal tablets. It is recommended to be taken with fresh or yogurt or with a decoction of rice.
Aspirin is good to take before a meal with a sour drink or milk.
Fifteen minutes before a meal, appetite stimulants and cholagogues of plant origin are ingested.
At the beginning of the meal, it is appropriate to take medications that help break down food and release food enzymes.
Multivitamin complexes are taken during meals.
