Calcium citrates E 333 (Monocalcium Citrate, Calcium Citrates, Dicalcium Citrate) are calcium salts of citric acid. The supplement is an antioxidant, used as an acidity regulator, stabilizer. Its taste is sour, it is a white powder with good solubility in water. The food supplement is the result of a reaction between calcium hydroxide and citric acid.

E 333 is used in various fields:

  • In the food industry - as a color-fixing agent, preservative, stabilizer, acidity regulator. In the role of stabilizer is used in the production of condensed and powdered milk, processed cheese. As an acid regulator - in canned fruits, jellies, jams, desserts. Dairy and sour milk products often contain E 333, because in this way they are additionally enriched with calcium. For the same purpose the additive is used in pastries, bread, soft drinks.
  • In medicine - it plays an important role, supplies the body with calcium, given that the supplement is more effective than calcium carbonate E 170. It is present in many biochemical supplements.
