The Australian Dietary Guidelines (the Guidelines) provide up-to-date advice about the amount and kinds of foods that we need to eat for health and wellbeing. The recommendations are based on scientific evidence, developed after looking at good quality research.
 

The five core food groups

  • Vegetables and legumes.
  • Fruit.
  • Grain (cereal) foods.
  • Lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds, and legumes/ beans.
  • Milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or their alternatives.

 

8 TIPS FOR EATING WELL.

  • Base your meals on starchy foods.
  • Eat lots of fruit and vegetables.
  • Eat more fish.
  • Cut down on saturated fat and sugar.
  • Try to eat less salt- no more than 6g a day.
  • Get active and try to be a healthy weight.
  • Drink plenty of water.
