British experts are delving into the benefits of yogurt and other probiotic-containing products, and more specifically on their role in the digestive process, especially fat absorption. In fact, probiotics can significantly alter the nature of the intestinal flora with beneficial health effects, explains Jeremy Nicholson of Imperial College London.

An article in Molecular Systems Biology claims that different strains of probiotic bacteria can have different effects. Understanding the mechanism of action of these microorganisms is important from the point of view that the application of probiotics helps a lot for proper nutrition, and hence the health of the individual.

Studies have shown that probiotics play a preventive role against diseases such as ulcerative colitis, some allergies in children, and even colon cancer.
